June 10, 2009, marked a day some of the people of Montevallo have been waiting over a year for - the official Grand Opening of the Boys & Girls Club of Montevallo.

Boys & Girls Club staff, as well as community leaders, including BGCCA Board Chairman-Hank Long, Montevallo Mayor Ben McCrory, Montevallo Champber of Commerce President Mary Lou Williams, BGCCA Board Members - Rich Campbell, Bob Cornelius and wife Joy, Frank Hopson, and George Wheelock, BGCCA President/CEO Tom Cleckler, University of Montevallo President Dr. Phil Williams and a host of other community members, Steering Committee memebers, Club parents, grandparents, and friends made up the standing room only crowd in the Club building (located in Orr Park).

"This is the first Boys & Girls Club in Shelby County and we cannot think of a better community to be in than Montevallo," shared Long in his remarks to the group. "We were blown away by the presentation to our board my the concerned citizens of this community. What a great day this is for the kids of Montevallo and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Alabama."
