Comments:I attended the Boys' Club in West End from 1980-1991. I was a Jr. Leader and camp counselor but worked mostly in the kitchen at camp with Tom, Pam, and Mrs. Wilson. I also was the last 'Boy of the Year' before that award was changed to 'Youth of the Year'. I really feel those were the best days. I often reference the good times and friends I made; a few of which I still have today. The Club has changed since the days when it was on South Park Drive and when we had to hug trees at camp but I think the foundation it provides, is still there. Remember, "A man is never as tall as when he stoops to help a boy."

Comments:I attended between 1985 and 1989. I fondly remember gym hockey, using the art room, watching Tron on laser disc in the TV room, and warball. The one year I got to attend the camp, we did a skit based on Carman's "The Champion". I would like to one day try and re-create the Birmingham Boy's Club experience here in Montgomery.

I often wonder if that group picture in still on the wall from 1990.My kids will probably attend if the club is still open. I'm glad to have been apart of a positive place for kids. MJ

Comments:I was a member of the Boys Club when it was located in Central City, I attended Camp Horner and helped clear out for Camp Goodwin before the lake was filled. I worked at the Club during High School and 2 summers at Camp Goodwin. Pete Peterson was the Director back then. I will never forget the time when he was attending a National event in LA that he called me(Living in San Diego at the time) to meet up with him. Pete was truly an inspiration to my life and many , many others. I cherrish the memories that I had around the clud and camps. I would love to hera from any of the old guys. Comments:I grew up in Central City and started going to the Club when I was 6. I started working at the Club when I started working for tghe Club thru High School. Pete Peterson was the Director. Mrs Hawthorne was the Arts Director. I first attended camp at Camp Horner and then helped clearing out for Camp Goodwin. I never attended the camp as a camper, but attended it as Arts and Crafts person and one summer as Assistent Cook.. What a time we had. Those surely were the good old days. I would love to get back down to see the camp. Any one wishing to get in touch with me give ame a call on 704-996-6933 or my email address are Jmeadows@cmgsales.com and Jmeadows@carolina.rr.com. Comments:Boys Club alum from 79-85. Watching hockey on tv now brings back the old gym hockey days and the countless times that everybody would watch a Rocky movie or a Karate movie and come out acting a fool.

Comments:I was a member of the Boy's Club from about 1975-1983. Those were the best times of my childhood and I will be forever thankful to the people who provided that opportunity for me. I remember going to Camp Jimmy Goodwin every week during the summer, working KP with Miss Gibson, Sham Battles, Softball, Olympics Randy Keaton, the Fitzgerald’s, the Fords, Phillip Hurt, Drew, Camp songs, Indian Council, Six Flags trips every year, Best camper, Foosball and pool tournaments movies in the Astro dome and I could go on and on. I would love to organize a reunion of some sort if you might have any of the old record with the names from those days?

Comments:My affiliation with the Boys and Girls Club of Central Alabama enabled me to be accepted at a high school that ranked Number one in the country. After that time, I articulated the same experiences when I applied to the various colleges. When I decided to apply for scholarships, my experiences at the Boys and Girls Club assisted in my being awarded scholarships. As part of my grade during my sophomore year in college, I had to work as a volunteer for a non-profit organization in Kentucky. It was a natural for me to choose the Boys and Girls Club. I wanted to “give back” to the children there, some of the things that I had been given during the years I was a member of the Boys and Girls Club of Central Alabama. What a wonderful experience that will follow one to adulthood.
