| CLUB Day - Monday, July 18, 2011
Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Alabama had its annual “Club Day” this past Thursday (July 14).
The Board of Directors and Leadership Council were invited to come spend the day with the kids. Some of the CITs gave the board members tours of the Club, while others greeted one-another and mingled in the lobby. The board met in the Learning Center for a brief presentation and lunch, where they heard some of the success stories of Club staff and CITs.
“I have been look forward to this all day,” commented Ellen Jackson, long-term member of the Leadership Council and Board of Directors.
Afterward, the board was invited to participate in “CD” (Character Development), which is the daily assembly meeting each Club has to discuss character traits and what is going on in the Club that day. In CD, the coveted “Kids v. CITs: Gym Hockey” game took place. The match was close, with a final score of Kids-2, CITs-1.
“This is a great way for the Board to really see what we do on a day-to-day basis, and to see the positive impact that the Club makes in the lives of the children we serve,” said Tom Cleckler, CEO of Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Alabama.

| Time For Camp! - Tuesday, July 12, 2011 The Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Alabama has gone to camp! Camp Hargis in Chelsea, Alabama is the current camp for BGCCA members. Club goers look forward to camp each year, and the time has finally come. Each year the boys and girls look forward to their week away at camp.
The boys attended camp two weeks ago (June 27-30), and the girls are currently at camp until Thursday.
While at camp, the boys and girls are able to enjoy hiking, fishing, field activities and swimming. The campers also have the pleasure of playing one of the Club's favorite camp games- Shambattle! Shambattle is similar to Capture-the-Flag, but the kids use bags of flour to attack their opponents.
"Our kids look forward to Shambattle every year," said Josh Pierce, programs director at John Williamson Boys and Girls Club and this year's camp director. "There is no question- Shambattle is why kids come to camp. It was always my favorite part of camp too."
